The extraction process includes the drawing of latex, the coagulation, the washing and the drying. NR is comparable to polyisoprene. The chemical and the mechanical properties as well as the resistance to weather can be improved by cross-linking the polymer chains with sulfur (vulcanisation). NR is more unsaturated than BR and contains less methyl groups, therefore it is twenty times more permeable to air than BR.
