This is an exhaustive reference of all solids capable of changing the physical and chemical properties of materials. Stimulated by the fact that materials can be improved almost beyond recognition by new grades of fillers, this one volume presents the information needed to market, develop, select, manufacture, and apply these versatile materials. A single volume contains all the fundamentals and the latest advances in fillers technology and the products in which they are used.The book is divided into three sections. The first is a databank of fillers which includes the most comprehensive set of data ever published. The second section is designed to show how material properties can be tailored to the needs of products. Coupled with observations and theories from current research, this section serves to reconcile controversial findings and provides an understanding of the complex issues of filler applications. The last section concentrates on the application of fillers on an industrial scale.
About the author
George Wypych has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. He has more than 30 years of industrial and academic experience. For 25 years, he was involved in industrial research first at the Central Laboratory of Technical Products and later at BF Goodrich/Tremco and, for 8 years, taught at the University of Ife giving courses in chemical engineering and polymers. He has conducted degradation/stabilization studies on the following range of products: PVC plastisols, polyurethanes, epoxies, polyolefins, rubbers, coated fabrics, sealants, coatings, lacquers, engineering polymers, cables, upholstery materials, materials for awnings, shoes, and bags, floor coverings, automotive components, flexible containers, flexible warehouses, waterproofing materials, concrete protective coatings, butyl tapes.He has published 36 research papers, holds 16 patents, and has published 8 books including: Handbook of Material Weathering, PVC Thermal Degradation, PVC Thermal Stabilization, Polymer Modified Textile Materials, Recycling of PVC and Mixed Waste. He is the Managing Editor of the international journal Polymer Networks & Blends and Advances in Materials Durability and Their Environmental Impact.
